Areas of Work

Environment Health Education Innovation Community Research

A world where families
and communities thrive

The Onuawonto Foundation was established in response to environmental, educational, health, and community development challenges affecting vulnerable communities in Ghana and across Africa.

We believe lasting change comes from within — through empowered communities, accountable governance, and innovations that serve people and planet alike.

Our work is guided by the belief that solidarity — like the bond between siblings — creates the foundation for transformative, lasting impact.

Programs Making
Real Change

01

Onuawonto Green Communities Initiative

A community-led program fostering environmental stewardship, sustainable land use, and green infrastructure in partnership with local leaders and residents.

02

Girls in Geospatial Sciences and STEM

The future of surveying, mapping, and spatial sciences must include the voices and leadership of women. This program is dedicated to inspiring and equipping the next generation of women geospatial professionals — from GIS and remote sensing to UAV mapping and digital twins.

We believe that when women lead in geospatial sciences, communities are mapped more equitably, land is governed more justly, and the world is understood more fully.

03

Responsible Mining & Sustainable Livelihoods Initiative

Bridging the gap between natural resource extraction and community wellbeing — ensuring mining benefits local people while protecting land and health.

04

Community Climate Intelligence Labs

Equipping communities with tools, data, and local knowledge systems to anticipate, adapt to, and build resilience against climate change impacts.
